How to reach our remote paradise

getting to Gustavus

Getting to Gustavus is easy and an adventure!

ARRIVING MEMORIAL DAY THROUGH LABOR DAY:

The town of Gustavus is accessible via daily Alaska Airlines 737 service from Juneau beginning Memorial Day through Labor Day. These flights originate in Seattle, Washington and connect through Juneau before arriving in Gustavus each afternoon at approximately 4:30 p.m.

ARRIVING BEFORE MEMORIAL DAY AND AFTER LABOR DAY:

For travel outside of the summer season, flights between Juneau and Gustavus are available through Alaska Seaplanes, a smaller regional carrier servicing Southeast Alaska.

Upon arrival in Gustavus, a member of our team will greet you at the airport and transport you to Eagle’s Nest Lodge—just five minutes away. On your departure day, we’ll return you to the airport with your boxes of freshly packed fish, ready for your journey home.

Please note: an overnight stay in either Juneau or Seattle may be required on the return leg of your trip. Just ask us any questions and we will help you coordinate travel.

Where is Gustavus?

Gustavus, Alaska is 35 miles west of Juneau, the state’s capital. Gustavus is a small town, population 600. Expect to relax and enjoy peace and quiet!

Gustavus is not on an island but rather a fjord. Gustavus is the gateway to Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve and accessible by sea but not by road, which will make you feel as though you’re on an island.

packing for your trip

Alaska’s weather can change quickly, so the key to staying comfortable is layering. We recommend bringing lightweight base layers, a warm mid-layer, and a weatherproof outer layer. Don’t forget a good rain jacket, as showers can roll in without warning. You’ll also want sunscreen, polarized sunglasses, and a fishing hat for protection on bright days, plus a beanie to keep warm on cool mornings. The lodge provides waterproof boots and bibs, so there’s no need to pack those. Warm socks are a must, and fishing gloves are optional but can be handy for chilly or wet conditions. Pack smart, and you’ll be ready for anything Alaska sends your way—both on and off the water.
